The Saint Kenelm Pilgrimage Society
Reg Charity: 1204853
Who are we?
A small band of Pilgrims who volunteer our time to run this non for profit Society, but how did it begin?
In the Summer of 2018 a small band of pilgrims from All Saints Church, Pittville, Cheltenham was taken on their first Saint Kenelm Pilgrimage at Winchcombe. This early experiment took in a 7 mile route from Winchcombe church of St Peters to Hailes Abbey and then on to the Holy well of St Kenelm, at the well prayers were said and the litany of Saint Kenelm was read, the waters were taken and the journey ended where it had began.
It was not long after that this merry band of Pilgrims and other enthusiastic individual's came together to form the Society and they made the bold decision to restore the Medieval Pilgrimage of Saint Kenelm and to rescue this ancient and once nationally popular English Saint, plans were soon laid for the 2022 Pilgrimage, the project's committee includes a variety of individuals from every background with many of them being members of the local Chapter of the Walsingham Shrine and some are very experienced with Pilgrimages not only in the UK but also abroad.
With this collective experience to hand, the committee have worked very hard to restore this ancient of Pilgrimage and to promote the veneration of Saint Kenelm not only in Gloucestershire but also Nationally.
A huge debt of thanks is owed to the team and parishioners of both All Saints Church, Pittville and Saint Peters Church, Winchcombe, without whom this would not be possible.
From a humble acorn a mighty oak has begun to grow.
