Hopefully whether you are a pilgrim- past, present or future - student, visitor or tourist, will find this site helpful and you will gain a sense of the very special quality of Saint Kenelm and the Pilgrimage, one of the most ancient in Britain.
The First Pilgrimage to Winchcombe to the shrine of Saint Kenelm began in 969AD and would become one of Britain's largest and popular Pilgrimages, which saw many thousands of Pilgrims travel to Winchcombe Abbey to venerate the Saints relics at his shrine, and to also take in the water at the nearby Holy well which has many miracles attached to it. But, Sadly, by 1539 this all came to a brutal end with the destruction of the Shrine in Winchcombe Abbey but luckily the Holy well has survived.
In 2018 a small Pilgrimage took place at Winchcombe which saw a small band of individual's visit the Holy well and St Peters church at Winchcombe, it was not long after this that it was decided by those Pilgrims, to establish this Society and to revive the ancient pilgrimage of Saint Kenelm as well as encourage others to learn more about our Gloucestershire Saint.
